New dolomite deposit and rising production capacity

Juris Seilis, head of Saulkalne S group: ‘The expansion of the national Kranciems dolomite deposit, located in Ikšķile Municipality, with the launch of a new deposit, is an important step as part of the group’s development strategy. It will enable the company to increase its long-term productivity and production capacity, making sure that its turnover grows in domestic as well as export markets. Current market trends also make it possible for us to expect an increase in demand for aggregates, suggesting that the next few years will be very financially successful for the company.’

The Kranciems deposit is located just 33 km from the centre of Riga, capable of satisfying the rapidly growing demand for aggregates. The quarry is used to extract dolomite stone for the manufacture of dolomite products. These include washed dolomite crushed stone, various dolomite crushed stone mixes, aggregate fillers for concrete, asphalt concrete, and mortar, as well as dolomite powder and dolomite sand.

‘This year, we invested in the purchase and installation of a new production line and equipment. The new line washes the material and efficiently separates it into different particle sizes. Thanks to this investment, we can offer a new high-quality product: washed and dried dolomite sand of certain particle sizes. This opens up a broad range of opportunities not only for attracting new clients, but also for expanding the product portfolio of existing clients, both domestically and abroad,’ Seilis added.

Washed and dried dolomite sand has an extensive variety of applications: for example, manufacturers of construction materials can use it for high-quality plasters, mortars, mastics, and dry construction mixes. The expanded range of sand product offers construction material manufacturers more freedom and creativity in developing new formulas for construction materials and in changing existing ones. However, one of the main applications of washed and dried dolomite sand is in the production of asphalt.
